With some highly recognized and well advertised contemporaries around, it’s easy for the Canon SD770 IS to be unnoticed. With interesting new interface design and ultra modern technology the SD770 IS is considered to be on the “best value” list.

The SD770 IS however does have the potential to be an example of what Canon is known for in its mid-level models, which is building comparatively simple point-and-shoots that draw on a proven collection of components and technologies.

Although it is not an overall star with a series of jaw dropping features hidden beneath its surface, it neither has any nasty surprises hidden under its cover to distract you. It is simply an ultra compact point-and-shoot camera with a 3x zoom lens and a 10.0 megapixel CCD imager.

Functionally, the camera is founded on Canon’s legacy of placing lower-cost, lower-spec SD models in the 700 series. Style-wise this camera is a retro-classis return to the ‘box and circle’ look of the cameras of the mid nineties. Its appearance also reflects its ELPH lineage that morphed into the Digital ELPH around the year 2000 and has become integral to the Power Shot SD range which has continued to include Canon’s latest ultra-compact technology in its flagship models.

The key factor of the SD770 however is its return to much of what the original ELPH was: a simple, pocket-model camera built with basic idea of good quality snapshot capture in mind. The inner workings of the SD770 reveal an ultra modern DIGIC III processing, optical image stabilization, and copious resolution form – the technological backbone around which this compact is built.
