The hard drive in my notebook corrupted, and was unable to view. I put the hard drive a USB enclosure, and I plugged it into my desktop. The drives appear but when I attempt to open them, I get the error “File or Directory is Corrputed or Unreadable”. This hard drive contains important documents, and I need to recover them… Is there any program I can use to browse the corrupted drive?

    1. Click Start, and then click Run.
    2. In the Open box, type chkdsk /f :, where is the letter of the drive on which the damaged file, folder or file system index exists.
    3. Click OK.
or you need to right click on my computer and go to drive management and manually assign a drive letter to the drive

Here are some solutions. The first link is an article with links to programs and instructions (not all the programs are free). The second link is a free (demo) I’m not sure how long you can use it for free but it should get some files back.
    Good luck.
