1. It tooks several reboots before the formating utility showed up on the screen.
2. The user manual and the utilities stored on the disk refused to be copied to my computer.
3. When powered ON/OFF manually (would could have been a very nice feature), my Windows Eplorer hung consistenly.
Too much trouble for the money, this model is a dissapointment.

I use external hard drives for every Apple Macintosh computer I have (4) for backup. Always purchased IOMEGA and never a single hitch using their products. I continually need larger backup drives and found this Lacie on Amazon at a great price. Took it out of the box and hooked it up. Tried using Carbon Copy Cloner and SuperDuper! — writes for short time — stops. Contacted Lacie tech support. They gave me a great detailed instruction on how to partition the drive, but nothing works. I now use the Lacie as a storage drive where I just drag and drop. I am back to IOMEGA for a larger drive.

This Hard Drive is poorly designed, since the cords they give you are so short any type of tension applied to the cord connected will cause the drive to crash to the ground and stop working. In my case, my cat brushed up against the cord and knocked the drive off of the desk and now it is worthless.

I got this drive for christmas and have saved very little on it until now. I needed to reinstall vista so I spent all night backing up 30 gb of stuff off of my hard drive. I just got vista back up and running and found that there was nothing to restore on my Lacie
Depending on this external drive cost me everything I had. Prior to the reinstall of Vista disk manager showed the Lacie as healthy and my GB’s of data there. Same Vista, same computer, same connections and software. No Data.

I work with a lot of images, and about a two years ago purchased three laCie hard drives, 500 gb, 1 tb and 1.5 tb. All three are dead now, and they all died same way – after a long non use period of time (from a week to a couple of months) you turn them on and nothing happens, they are dead, the disk is not spinning and no means can help. If you are looking for something reliable, please find something else.
