I bought my My Essentials 1 TB external hard drive about 2 1/2 months ago. I had never purchased an external hard drive before but looked around, saw this one and the price seemed as right as I could make it so I bought it. Installing things onto my computer has always given my nerves a little rattle. Never the less, the installation worked fine. Soon began the backing up of my data. I was pretty wary of it all but it seems to be doing fine. I would just suggest that unless you have done this before to GO SLOW! The last thing anyone wants to do is act rashly and end up with a $120.00 paper weight. Get adjusted to what it does and what it doesn’t. I still haven’t figured it all out but seeing the degree of negative reviews I want to say that I am having a decent experience with mine.

This drive is like no other drive I have ever bought. Once you connect it to your system, it FORCES a Virtual CD drive (VCD) onto your operating system that CAN NOT BE REMOVED IN ANY WAY by the user. This is GARBAGE! This drive is going right back. I have never heard of such an insane idea as this. There is nothing on the packaging to indicate that this drive will take over your OS. This feature is burned into the drive’s firmware!

WORST IDEA I’VE SEEN IN 10 YEARS.

The Western Digital (My book essential) 1 TB external drive is a great back up tool for anyone with a home network and for many other uses requiring mass storage. Hook up is trivial, the software is adequate requiring some experience and close inspection of the documentation. Even a novice user can make good with this external drive.

With 5 computers and more extra hard drives than I can find anymore, THIS is a nice surprise. It has the room for ALL my “crap”. It’s simple, nothing to really figure out, darn…..There just isn’t anything more I can add that matters. Not for me, a casual user anyway. And with the encryption, maybe the wife won’t find all “those” pictures? (KIDDING!)

The description state: "Usually ships within 1 to 2 months"

Why on earth would it take 1-2 months to ship this product? Who would wait that long?

I was all set to check out when I saw this. I can't wait that long. I need a new drive now. I guess I'll be running out to BestBuy to pick one up tomorrow. Even though their price is almost $50 higher, at least I'll have the darn drive! Rating: 1 / 5
